Amazing! One Week in Morocco
We got in contact with Alecia about 8 months before our trip. There was so much to learn, we wanted to have lots of time to plan. Well, we really didn't need it! Alecia took care of everything. Responding to our emails with lightening speed and answering all of our questions (sometimes twice!). Mustapha met us at the Tangier Ville port and drove us through Tangier to Chefchaouen, the blue city. It was a good introduction to Morocco as it is a smaller medina (old city), which gave us time to acclimate to the rich culture and history. After 2 nights, we left Chefchaouen for Volubilus and Meknes on our way to Fes. Volubilis was amazing - a Roman City that was destroyed by an earthquake only to be re-earthed in almost pristine condition. Mosaics were amazing and Alecia had arranged for a fabulous tour guide there. We then spent 3 nights in Fes at the wonderful Riad Dar Roumana. You feel as though you are sleeping in a museum. The tile work is beautiful and the restaurant very good. It was a great retreat. Alecia had tours of Fes ready and Mustapha got us everywhere on time. The food tour with Miriam was wonderful and we learned so much about spices, bread baking, and honey. Then it was off for 2 nights in Marrakesh, the most western-like of our destinations. We could have spent one more night there in the Riad Kniza, one of the nicest hotels we've ever stayed in. We took a great tour of the City with Zoo and she helped us buy spices, shoes, and some other trinkets, and very openly answered our questions.
We felt very safe in Morocco and did our best to be good travelers and representatives of the US. Respecting and opening your mind and heart to unique cultures goes a long way towards your visit and will enhance it. I highly recommend Travel Exploration Morocco!
